Please read! My thoughts on happiness/unhappiness.... concepts I have come to understand as true: We generally find it easy to be happy and grateful when things are good. But we find it impossible at times to turn to the skies when everything seems wrong and sincerely say thank you for this. Our thoughts, which turn into beliefs, keep us bound like a dog on a chain that chokes us just inches away from attaining a feeling of freedom and peace. Learn to ACT grateful before you even know what youre grateful for. Fake it til you make it. Make your actions in gratitude, and the thinking follows. The sooner you change your attitude, the sooner you become aware that it is your thoughts about your life that are the cause of your unhappiness and stress... and the sooner the lessons to be learned will present themselves... the sooner you will grow. In nature, we see infinite examples of times when stress in animals is necessary to overcome an obstacle. (usually a dangerous situation) Once the threat is gone, everything returns to normal. Instinctively, they know that the danger is past, and safety is restored. Blood pressure returns to normal, and stress dissolves. The difference with humans is that our thoughts convince us that after the initial threat, there is still danger lurking. And suddenly all of the things in life that arent perfect become perceived as dangers. A threat to our safety, security, or happiness. The longer you focus on these alleged dangers, the longer YOU HOLD YOURSELF in a state of stress. And, as you know, stress is a killer. A burden on us mentally, but more importantly, it presents some real hazards to our physical health. Perhaps the biggest flaw in our evolution is our insistence on taking our thoughts so seriously. We live by them, religiously. Even unconsciously. So many scenarios and stories in our heads. Which one to believe? Probably none of them, because the one that is true may never have occurred to you: Everything is ok. Neither perfect, nor a disaster. Just ok. Because ok is where peace lies. If there is a REAL and ongoing threat to our well being, we may be keeping ourself in a toxic environment. If so, it is our own failure to make a vital decision that keeps us in danger. If you have experienced such a situation, you know getting out is much easier said than done. Still, it is far from impossible. We are afraid of change. But change can often be the only way to growth. And making the right decision is profoundly terrifying and empowering in these cases. So, your greatest fear is true. YOU ALONE are responsible for your happiness. But friends can certainly help. A LOT! And maintaining and/or developing healthy relationships will confirm your new belief that everything is ok.
