Please take a minute to pray for the Philippines and our friends Sean N Janelle as they go through this storm. Super Typhoon Haiyan (known locally in the Philippines as Yolanda) has most likely broken the record for the most powerful typhoon in recorded history. Her sustained winds are currently estimated to be at 196mph with gusts around 236mph. Here is a visible satellite image taken earlier today of her very well defined eyewall. While the Philippine island chain is no stranger to typhoons...generally being impacted by about 20 typhoons per year...this storm will likely go down in history as the strongest and most catastrophic in this region. The only other typhoons/hurricanes to come close to the strength of Haiyan were Hurricane Camille in 1969, Super Typhoon Tip in 1979, and Hurricane Allen in 1980 according to data posted on The Weather Channels web site. cimss.ssec.wisc.edu/goes/blog/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/131107_mtsat_vis_haiyan_eye_mesovorts_anim.gif
