Police Cracks Double-murder Case in Sopore: : Sopore June 22: Police claimed to have solved the double- murder case in which a son of a Congress leader and his cousin were killed by gunmen on June 19 in Sopore. A police spokesperson told Sachnews Jammu Kashmir that masked gunmen entered the house of Congress leader Khazir Mohammad Naikoo at Seeloo in Sopore and resorted to indiscriminate firing on inmates. Khazir’s son Nazir Ahmed Naikoo and his nephew Shabir Ahmed Naikoo were injured. They were immediately rushed to a local hospital where Nazir died while Shabir succumbed to his injuries today at a Srinagar hospital after battling for life for two days. Khazir was able to identify one of the assailants as Mehraj- u-din Khan alias Raja Khan, a resident of Khan Mohalla in Zangeer, Sopore, who is his relative. ‘Khan had a land dispute with Khazir’s family,’ he said. During the investigation Khan revealed that a bitter land dispute was going on between the two families and previously an FIR was registered in police station, Sopore against him and his brothers which is still sub- judice in Baramulla court, A police spokesperson said that during questioning Khan confessed to his involvement in the attack. ‘In the process of investigation it surfaced that the accused used the services of militants to settle the score with Naikoos, he said, adding Khan approached one local HM militant Javaid Ahmad Matoo of Sopore town and in connivance and active participation of militants in the attack murdered Nazir Ahmad Naikoo and injured his cousin,’ he alleged. The investigation of the case is going on, he said, adding police have launched manhunt to arrest other accused militants involved in the case.
