Police Officers. And law enforcement. I have been watching this - TopicsExpress

Police Officers. And law enforcement. I have been watching this growing unrest about the injustice perpetrated on the general public, black or white for the last several weeks. I have not heard, NOT A SINGLE time in the media the following: in 2012 there were 49 police officers killed in the line of duty, 47 of which were killed by guns. In 2013, the number of policemen killed in the line of duty was 27; 26 of which were killed by guns. These statistics are from the FBIS main site. There is no equivalent tracking of civilian deaths caused by police, but the estimates are around 320-330 in 2013. Looking at the population of the US, at 316,000,000 with a total of 765,000 law enforcement personel, or for every 413 people, there is ONE police officer. Of these 413, the probability of any one of them being killed by the is about 1 in .001. I will take those odds EVERYDAY. On the other hand, the ratio of likelyhood of the police office being killed by one of his 413 potential killers is about 1 in .1, or 1000 times more likely. How many of the protesters take the time to see this? No one, not one person ever, should be abused, or denied his rights, but folks, we have a problem on our streets and the issues of race and the frenzy that is stirred up along with it is foolish. Really. Do as you are told. Respond to violence and misbehavior in your neighborhood with understanding of the impossible job of what you expect the police to do. Where are the voices for the police? I understand that there are bad actors, there are men and women who act irresponsibly in the police force. But they are few. I do not fear them. I am frustrated by the notion that the blame falls at their feet. The blame lies in families and communities and education, not the people who are sworn to do a job I could not do.
