Polina Borodina Sep 10, 2013 Aeroflot has created a subsidiary named Taiga Airline, which was created by merging two Russian Far Eastern airlines, Vladivostok Avia and SAT Airlines. The corporate structure and flight network have been approved. Aeroflot CEO Vitaly Saveliev said the new carrier will be a co-ownership with regional governments, but Aeroflot will be the majority shareholder. At the end of August, Aeroflot signed an agreement with Sakhalin regional authorities to purchase 49% of the new carrier. It received 100% of SAT Airlines from Russian state Corporation Rostechnology at the end of 2011. Earlier this year, Aeroflot said it would need government subsidies to create a regional carrier in the Far East. Vladivostok Avia will become a branch of the new carrier. In March, Aeroflot transferred its 52.2% share in Vladivostok Avia to SAT Airlines. Vladivostok Knevichi Airport will remain a base for Vladivostok Avia’s Airbus A320 family aircraft. It will stop flying Tupolev Tu-204s currently in service. Fleet development plans have not been disclosed. In the first half, Vladivostok Avia carried 546,238 passengers, up 1.2% from the year-ago period. SAT Airlines carried 118,612 passengers in the first half, up 0.5% year-over-year.
