Politics as usual. This happens everywhere in every country, but that doesnt make it any less unsettling (pun absolutely intended). This is conquest by another name, not so much a security measure as it is a land grab, not so far removed from the Sudetenland grab in 1938. If the analogy offends, it shouldnt. The political motivations were precisely the same, Germany in pursuit of The Thousand Year Reich and Israel in pursuit of the restoration of Judah and Samaria. In each case, there was no preceding political entity to justify annexation, but just jingoist political hubris that eventuated the wreckage of millions in one case, and has the potential to do that in the other. Beofre everyone gets their tzitzis in a twist, I am NOT comparing one nation state to another, but the nature of one political act to another (not that anyone will pay attention to that caveat, but its insertion is required for my own rhetorical protection).
