Popper distinguishes two kinds of knowledge: “knowledge or thought in the subjective sense, consisting of a state of mind or of consciousness or a disposition to behave or to react; and […] knowledge or thought in an objective sense, consisting of problems, theories, and arguments as such.” In his eyes, traditional epistemology has misunderstood scientific knowledge by deeming it an object of World 2. In so doing, it focused on the wrong problems, such as the specifications of the conditions by which a person is justified in regarding his beliefs as true: “traditional epistemology with its concentration on the second world, or on knowledge in the subjective sense, is irrelevant to the study of scientific knowledge.
