Postgraduate Studentship in Korean Studies The Graduate School of Korean Studies The Academy of Korean Studies The Academy of Korean Studies (AKS) is a government-funded research/education institute established by the Act on the Support of the AKS in 1978. In 1980, it established the Graduate School of Korean Studies (GSKS) with the aim of nurturing scholars who will contribute to the development and globalization of Korean studies. Perched on the side of Cheonggye Mountain, 30km south of the center of Seoul, the campus provides a fantastic setting for the academic pursuits of students with its peaceful atmospheres and natural environments. Also, students can reach dynamic youth culture of Gangnam area within 30 minutes by bus as well as artistic and historic heritage of Seoul city center within an hour. Currently, 262 students including 113 international students from 32 different countries are enrolled in the master’s or doctoral degree programs in the fields of humanities and social sciences pertaining to Korea at the GSKS, aspiring to grow to be a next generation of promising scholars in Korean studies. Programs Offered: Masters or Doctoral Degree Programs in Korean Studies Benefits for International Students Full tuition waiver Government Grant of KRW750,000 (equivalent to about EUR500) per month for selected students Korean language courses offered free of charge On-campus dormitory accommodations are available at the rate of KRW477,400 (equivalent to about EUR315) per semester, double occupancy. A 4:1 student-faculty ratio enables close one-to-one guidance of students by professors.
