Potatoes often grow well in soil that is considered poor for other vegetables. Potatoes also dont like composted manure which can cause a condition called potato scab. Many farmers grow their potatoes in a separate patch where they avoid amending the soil too heavily and allowing the ph to remain slightly acidic. We didnt do this and our potatoes have potato scab. We will be unable to sell the potatoes however we can still eat them if we remove the scabby peels. They are considered organic, and probably better for you than commercial potatoes that are heavily doused in pesticides, and herbicides. Help yourselves! As well as encountering scab the plants were covered in flea beetles ( which Ive never seen at home so they are a new pest to me) Ive included a couple pictures for reference. Also there are tomatoes ripening daily....eat them up. Ill check in next week. If there are still tons of tomatoes we could have a salsa party to use them up. Happy long weekend !! Carey
