#Pray4Saudi Weekend Starts on Friday....? 4 Real. The Saudi Press Agency carried a decree issued by King Abdullah. The royal decree signaled the switching of the weekend from Thursday-Friday to Friday-Saturday. Businesses and people alike welcomed the decision. When the proposal to switch the start of the weekend from Thursday to Friday was first presented in 2007, the Shura Council rejected it. They perceived it as a slippery slope to adopting the Saturday-Sunday weekend followed by Christians. Even though the seven-day week dates back a long time, the two-day weekend is a result of labor laws. Saudi Arabia has the biggest economy in the region. It prides itself of the largest stock market in the Middle East. Even as it is perceived as the financial nucleus of the region, it was paying a huge financial price for keeping its work week different from its neighbors. Private-sector workers, along with public-sector workers, will now have the rights to two days off. Saudi businesses, which previously had only three working days overlapping with Western and regional businesses, now will have four working days. This will make trading much easier. The decree switching the start of the weekend from Thursday to Friday took effect on the last week of June. Praise God for the royal decree that will greatly help Saudi businesses and workers (The Bible, Psalm 29:2). Pray for economic growth in Saudi Arabia, pray that the wealth generated will help every section of society (The Bible, Philippians 4:19). Pray for greater freedom for Christian Believers in Saudi Arabia to worship God and share the Good News of Jesus Christ (The Bible, Psalms 66:4).
