***** Predator Clutch Rule ***** After discussing it with Brian and talking with racers , it seems that most already have a 19 tooth clutch and some have purchased a 20. With that being the case, we will allow a up to a 20 tooth clutch and a minimum of a 54 on the rear. This will draw the line and we should not have to revisit this issue. That being said this is another example of the process of developing a new format and rules. Hindsight we would have capped it in the beginning but we did not see that as an issue then. It has became an issue for two reasons. Our first few races were ran under wet conditions and the track was only giving up high 13 seconds in this class. The last race the conditions drastically changed and the track gave up low 12 second laps in this class. As the summer season progresses without a rule change the challenge to find speed becomes greater. For a governed engine to run low 12 second laps here is surprising to say the least. The racers here are very competitive and would take it in the 11 second range before the end of summer we think. By making it a rule , it will stop the pursuit of speed in the gear area. It is interesting that the racers understand already that they will have to find speed in the kart. Usually when you start a new engine the racers tend to tinker with the engine to find speed. We are not seeing this ,because the rpm rule and all the other measures controls the will to build a better engine. Sorry we have been back and forth on this issue , but we are trying to keep it simple and understand that a clutch rule is a must as the track picks up speed.
