Preschoolers attending All Saint’s Catholic School met and spoke with Roswell Police Department (RPD) Recruiting/Training Officer Brackeen yesterday. Officer Brackeen spoke with the youngsters about safety issues, such as wearing seatbelts, and stranger danger. She also raised the point of keeping one’s hands to themselves. “We don’t want others to put their hands on us, so we must also keep our hands to ourselves,” said Brackeen. Officer Brackeen also stated to the group, “It’s important to listen to your parents”; some of the children nodded in agreement. Just as Officer Brackeen exclaimed, “All parents want their children to be safe,” in walked McGruff the Crime Dog. The preschoolers’ eyes grew wide at seeing McGruff enter the room. Officer Brackeen answered some of the children’s questions and then the kids gave McGruff and Officer Brackeen ‘high-fives’ and numerous hugs. All children present received a coloring book of McGruff as well as “officer badge” stickers. The safety presentation was a joint effort between the Roswell Police Department and the Roswell Neighborhood Watch.
