Presidency elcetions will be held on 6th August !! The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) announced on Tuesday that election to the office of the president would be held on Aug 6. President Asif Ali Zardari has already announced that he will not seek another term after his present five-year tenure expires on Sept 8. The Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians’ Asif Ali Zardari was elected president of Pakistan on September 6, 2008 and he assumed the office on September 9. He is arguably the first democratically-elected president, who will complete his full term in office. The new elected president will take oath after the completion of Asif Zardari’s tenure as the president. The history of presidents has not been a very pleasant experience and previously, almost all the heads of state had to bow out prematurely due to diverse factors. Some former presidents had to face chants to go home, including President Rafiq Tarar and Musharraf. But the upcoming election will be a new chapter in Pakistan’s checkered democratic history, when an elected president would go back home without facing any undemocratic machination.Sikandar Mirza was the last governor-general and first president while Pervez Musharraf was the last prior to Zardari’s election as head of the state five years back.
