Prison documentary raises the curtain for funds for new show The University of Winchester is showing a specially-produced documentary in a bid to raise funds for the next HMP Winchester Prison Theatre production – From Page to Stage: Stand or Fall broadcasts tomorrow (3 December). For the past 10 years, students from the University of Winchester and prisoners from HMP Winchester have worked with the Playing for Time Theatre Company to perform major productions. From Page to Stage: Stand or Fall was made for the Playing for Time Theatre Company by the community film company, LaunchPad Productions. “The documentary lasts for 50 minutes and follows the journey of a group of prisoners and some of our undergraduate students who worked on the Prison Theatre show, Stand or Fall, in 2008,” said Annie McKean MBE from the Faculty of Arts at the University of Winchester. “This is a wonderful opportunity to help raise funds for the theatre company’s next production. “Those coming to the event get the chance to talk to one of the ex-prisoners from the documentary as well as the 2008 show’s playwright and director, Brian Woolland.” Proceeds from the event will be used to help stage the next Prison Theatre production – due to take place during April 2014. Playwright Rib Davis is working on the piece, designed to be part of the city’s First World War commemorations. Page to Stage: Stand or Fall is to be shown at 7.30pm on Tuesday 3 December at The Stripe, King Alfred Campus, University of Winchester, Sparkford Road, Winchester, SO22 4NR. Tickets to see the documentary cost £8 and light refreshments are included.
