Problem Based Strategic Thinking Concepts Sometimes when we are brainstorming solutions to problems, we get a mental block. In our Problem Based Strategic Thinking Concepts course, we teach a few brainstorming techniques to help our students. One technique taught is SCAMPER, which is used to improve an existing product, service or process. SCAMPER is a mnemonic that stands for: Substitute – What resources can you substitute or swap to improve the product? Combine - What if you combined purposes or objectives? Adapt - How could you adapt or readjust this product to serve another purpose or use? Modify - What could you emphasise or highlight to create more value? Put to another use - Who else could use this product? Eliminate - How could you make it smaller, faster, lighter, or more fun? Reverse - What would happen if you reversed this process or sequenced things differently? Our students can simply go down the list and ask questions regarding each element. A sample question is given in the list above. Remember, not every idea generated will be viable. It is meant as a starting point and students can take good ideas generated and explore them further. Enrol in our course to help your child learn more strategies to scaffold their creative and inventive thinking.
