Project Mountain Alphabet is an initiative to provide books to public school libraries of remote or indigenous communities. It aims to promote education, the way to fight illiteracy. It’s first outreach/library building benefited the students of Colalo Elementary School (Colalo, Mankayan, Benguet) last March of this year. The experience of putting hope and smile on these children’s faces was truly humbling. Project Mountain Alphabet in partnership with Lord of Jesus (LOJ) and Truly Rich Makers (Team Singapore) will be doing another library building on February 22-23, 2014. The activity this time will benefit the Mangyan kids in Siapo Elementary School (Siapo, Sta. Cruz, Occidental Mindoro). The Mangyans: It is believed that the Mangyans settled along the shores of Mindoro island some 600 to 700 years ago from the southern regions of the Philippine archipelago. They were gradually forced to leave their coastal settlements by more aggressive ethnic groups. A traditionally peace-loving and docile people, the Mangyan practice slash-and-burn farming, hunting, fishing, gathering and trade. Centuries of being deprived of education have perpetuated a vicious cycle of poverty for the mostly nomadic tribal communities of Mindoro island. –-- Wikipedia The library building is in line with our aim to promote education, and we are starting with the young generation of Mangyans. Education can be a major instrument for their liberation from illiteracy and poverty. It may help them in battling discrimination, injustice and prejudice. It will also help them maintain and enhance their culture and uniqueness as group of people. To build a library for Siapo Elementary School, we would like to knock on your good heart for your support for our ongoing book campaign. You may donate educational books such as encyclopedia, dictionary, posters, story books, globe, maps, almanac, atlas, etc. Books to be donated are children friendly as much as possible. Used books but are in good condition are welcome as well. :) Drop off points: Makati: Mavic Esparar (cel. no. 0905 276 8009) or Kat Deogracias (cel. no) 0917 708 7957 Thomson Reuters 18/F Ayala FGU Center, Ayala Avenue, Makati City Taguig: Geofrey Elegino (cel. no. 09321688544); Charlton Kis-ing (cel.. no.
