It is a school of fine art and a cultural centre open year round. The art school was founded in 1944 by the famous artist Arne Isacsson. It has a solid tradition and a focus on contemporary art. 80% of the Swedish art scene has passed through the school in one way or another, and today Swedens most valued artists are former Gerlesborg students. Gerlesborgsskolan is a combination of cultural experience, landscape and new ideas with a focus on contemporary art. One of our main goals is to contribute to a more diverse and equal art scene. The school has three main activities: •1 2-year education in fine art at two schools in Sweden, Gerlesborg (Swedish West coast) and Stockholm. The ambition is to give the best possible preparations for further studies at various university programmes such as fine art, architecture and design but also provide a solid basis for the students’ own work. The level of this course is equivalent to preparation classes at Universities/Art Academies. •2 Short courses: the school conducts approx. 50 short art courses for artists (from beginner to advanced level) with around 750 participants per year. •3 A wide range of activities such as exhibitions, concerts, seminars and workshops. In addition, the school also provides residential facilities for students, artists and visitors. Our students are admitted at internationally re-known Universities/Art Academies (e.g. Copenhagen, Oslo, Berlin, London, Amsterdam, New York and Stockholm). We are currently in a process of intensifying and developing our international activities. On a local/regional level, we have a viable partnership with the surrounding municipalities, the County Council and the Business School in Gothenburg. Project idea: Gerlesborgsskolan is looking for European partners interested to cooperate in future EU funded projects aiming to promote cooperation in the field of art and culture with a focus on contemporary art, education, performing art, music and, in a wider perspective, even national education in art. Through international exchange and cooperation the projects will contribute to create a more equal and interesting art scene in Europe. Gerlesborgsskolan is particularly interested in building a solid relationship with potential partners to jointly apply for EU projects from 2014 onwards. Objectives of our possible projects: -0 Cultural exchange, broaden the participants’ horizon -1 Mutual learning, exchange of experiences -2 Create a more equal art scene within Europe -3 Promote young artists, circulation of their works -4 Improve future artists’ international network and hence career opportunities -5 Development and sharing of best practices in art education methodologies, in particular for children and youth, to promote access and knowledge of contemporary art -6 Methodological development for programming of small-scale cultural organisations -7 Audience-development within the field of visual arts and music -8 Development and sharing of best practices in cultural work with a focus on peripheral and rural areas Possible activities to contribute to the specific objectives: -9 School exchange -10 Study visits (for students and teachers) -11 Touring exhibitions -12 Workshops, seminars, debates and think tanks (about specific currently relevant topics) -13 Residence program -14 Children & youth activities: short courses, weekend workshops, art camps -15 Exchange and knowledge transfer with institutions with new or different methods in art education If you find this proposal interesting, please do not hesitate to make contact for further details by 1st of January 2014 at the latest.
