((( Protection against over-current ))) Too much food can kill, however moderate amount of food and exercise make you more alive. The same applies to electric and electronic circuits. Too much power (voltage or current) can kill. What causes over current, or over voltage? Simply, it is the ground faults, electric surge, lightening, motor spikes, inductive loads, and the list goes on… What is the cure? There are many ways to sustain healthy electrical, or electronic, systems. Among of which is using the snubber circuit, fly wheels, compensation network, TVS, PTC, and certain diodes. Of course there are other ways, just to mention the few… Snubbers suppress over voltage, or over current, by arresting them via smart arrangement of inductors, capacitors, and sometimes diodes. Fly wheels uses diodes in the back to back arrangement so to cause the current to fly around the load when excessive of current attempts to go through it. Compensation networks account for excessive capacitance or inductance and thus neutralise the resulting impedance in a way to snub the spikes. TVs act as short circuit to sudden change in power. PTCs act like a fuse but can recover once the over-voltage condition is vanished. Prototactic Electronics has dealt with circuit protection and been in the electronic industry for long years.
