Protests in Brazil are not affecting travellers. In a statement - TopicsExpress

Protests in Brazil are not affecting travellers. In a statement issued by President, Dilma Rousseff, she said that protests are generally peaceful. In an effort to control the protests, four cities have agreed to reverse the increase in bus fares that led to the first demonstrations last week. The Justice Ministry has also indicated that federal troops will be deployed to bolster security for the Fifa Confederations Cup competition, which kicked off in Brazil on Saturday. The soldiers will be sent to Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais, Bahia, Ceara and the capital, Brasilia. The Justice Ministry said Recife was the only Confederations Cup host city not to request military support. A source in the ministry said it would be up to local governments to decide how long the troops would stay. Meanwhile, the president said the isolated acts of violence were destructive and regrettable and only generated more violence. The president added, however, that they did not overshadow the peaceful spirit of the people who took to the streets to democratically ask for their rights.
