Provincial Government of Northern Samar resumes construction of Geratigan Bridge Calbayog City, Samar, June 8, 2013 - The Provincial Government of Northern Samar now resumes its long-overdue construction of Geratigan Bridge in Bayho Village, Lope de Vega town. Outgoing Municipal Mayor Honorable Erlinda Cinco said that the bridge project was started 2001 but has stopped construction due to unknown reasons. Cinco is now already in her last days as the Municipal Mayor completing three consecutive terms since 2004. But while serving, she said that she requested for the completion of the bridge construction. With this, construction of Geratigan Bridge is now underway but funding of which now comes from the P184million worth of fund intended for the province under PAMANA’s infrastructure projects for this year. P84million of which is now being utilized for the construction of the said bridge and the opening of Silvino Lubos-Lope de Vega road measuring 12 kilometers. PAMANA (PAyapa at MAsaganang PamayaNAn) is OPAPP’s (Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process) program and framework for peace and development implemented in areas affected by conflict. Once the project is completed, seven barangays in Lope de Vega town will benefit from this, namely, San Miguel, Curry, Gebonawan, Paguite, Somoroy, Gen. Luna and Roxas. According to Mayor Cinco, this project will not only help her constituents in these barangays gain access to market for their farm-products, but also, will bring great impact on the security aspect that will eventually provide greater opportunity for them to have an improved and better life. Aside from the Provincial Government of Northern Samar, another PAMANA’s implementation partner for this project is the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG). This department is now closely monitoring its implementation to ensure that the multi-million funds for this project will not go to a waste. Contractor of the project is Aqualine Construction and its target completion date is on December this same year. ## END ##
