Proving that anything that needs to be done can be made complex and involve buying gear I have taken up the art of wet shaving. Sharon talked me into going to the Art of Shaving in Vegas and having their Royal Shave. A truely enjoyable experience. So my shipment from Amazon came the other day. Safety razor from Germany, weighty in the hand, the feeling of precision engineering and fine craftmanship. A tub of shaving soap from Italy, Badger hair shaving brush from England. There is a whole ritual to this, starting with the prep, hot water, hot towels. Whip up the lather in the tub, apply in a circular motion to exfoliate the skin and saturate the hair. Make one pass with the grain, using light to no pressure on the razor, let the razor do the work. Slow, steady, short strokes. Remember to turn the razor over and use the other side. Lather up again for an across the grain pass. And again for XTG in the other direction. If you are really brave and need an extra close shave, do you dare an against-the-grain pass? High probability of burn and nicks. I am not that brave - yet. Finish up with a cold wet towel to close the pores. Aftershave from the good old USA. I actually woke up this morning and couldnt wait to shave. Its a freaking Saturday. I NEVER shave on Saturdays. I do now.
