Proyecto Ecológico Selvavida is a private reserve in primary rainforest that is owned and run by a native Shuar. The principle aim of the project is to foment sustainable community development through education and environmental conservation. There are currently very few tourists visit the area around Macas due to its remote location. As with many indigenous tribes in Ecuador, the Shuar ethnic group has been marginalized and is struggling to maintain their traditional culture. One of the primary reasons this project is set up is to increase local awareness about sustainable tourism through intercultural exchange. The project coordinator, Cesar Tucupi, hopes that his project will serve as a blueprint for similar undertakings in the area. Volunteering: Projects that volunteers can participate in include: * Teaching English, math, or any other subject in which you have particular experience. * Constructing a new path and bridge from the road to the community. * Constructing a kitchen for the volunteers out of natural materials. * Collecting seeds from the rainforest
