Psa. 119:55-I have remembered thy name, O Lord, in the night, and have kept thy law. There seems to be a duel meaning to in the night here. It implies that while everyone else is asleep, he has spent many hours in the night pondering and reflecting on the Lord. It also implies that whatever night one is going through, that the Word is a needed solace to enable one to get through it. Hear John Gill-In the night of distress and affliction...in the night season, when on his bed and awake: while others were asleep, he revolved in his mind the greatness of the divine Being; the perfections of his nature; his wonderful works of creation, providence, and grace; his word and ordinances, by which he was made known unto the sons of men; and these he called to mind and meditated upon in the night watches, to encourage his faith and hope in the Lord... What power and comfort there is in the Word. Many of us have had our nights when we could not sleep for various reasons. How comforting and strengthening to reach for the Bible and find just the verse than speaks to our hearts. Glory! From such meditation comes strength to do what God wants. Hear Spurgeon-...He found sanctification through meditation; by the thoughts of the night he ruled the actions of the day. As the actions of the day often create the dreams of the night, so do the thoughts of the night produce the deeds of the day. If we do not keep the name of God in our memory we shall not keep the law of God in our conduct. Forgetfulness of minds leads up to forgetfulness of life... Wow! Our memory rules our conduct. Let us not have forgetfulness of mind that leads to slackness in devotion or duty. I pray we all have a strong day of remembering the Lord and a fresh commitment to keep His Word!
