Date Posted: Tuesday, August 12, 2014 Current Posting Expires: 10/11/2014 Position Description - Responsibilities and Requirements: Job Title: Public Relations and Communications Manager Reports to: Senior Director of Marketing and Community Relations. Supervises: Online Media Manager Department: Marketing Position Overview To develop and implement Goodwill’s overall strategic public relations programs to include, but not limited to, media relations, community relations, social media and internal communications. Effectively increase Goodwill’s positive media exposure in the communities served in conjunction with Goodwill’s total corporate identity/brand awareness campaign. Essential Functions Generate newspaper coverage with an emphasis on major publications, both in print and online. Generate television and radio coverage (stories) and news magazine coverage(articles). Oversee a monitoring system to ensure timely identification of newsworthy issues, events and people at Goodwill. Develop and implement a news media plan and calendar. Interview and photograph appropriate news sources and events at various sites. Develop new stories, news idea memos, letters to the editor, Video News Releases (VNRs), press kits, public service announcements and other appropriate news materials. Disseminate news material to appropriate news media and contacts. Conduct appropriate follow-up to ensure adequate placement and coverage. Develop and coordinate news conferences and media events, when appropriate. Monitor and analyze news coverage through online media, press clippings, logs, broadcast tapes and/or scripts and content analysis and the effects of news coverage on donations, retail sales, and Goodwill’s employment and training services. Maintain the agency’s crisis communications plan and provide input in crisis situations. Serve as editor and writer for all company publications, internal and external Serve as primary spokesperson for the agency and provide media training for key staff members. Manage all brand identity and key messages relayed to the media and general public. Oversee Goodwill’s online presence through social media. Plan and schedule so that, on average 20% of working time is spent on the road in direct contact with the media and 80% of time is spent in the office. Commitment to achieve results within desired deadlines. Attend staff meetings as required. Serve as a member of the Branding Review committee. Assist the department in the development and implementation of all annual programs sponsored by the agency, i.e. Annual Dinner, etc. To participate in professional organizations and community programs as needed. Be knowledgeable of and comply with all company policies and procedures at all times. Other duties as assigned by management. Required Skills Education College degree in journalism, marketing or public relations is required. Experience A minimum of three to five years in news reporting, editing and writing, and/or news media relations is required. Knowledge and Skills Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills. Self-manage time and prioritize multiple projects. Experience with content marketing Experience with media and brand reputation monitoring Deal with all situations in a calm and positive manner while exhibiting the agency’s core values. Use proficiently Microsoft Office, Internet, and have the ability to learn new software as needed. Preferred Education / Experience / Knowledge & Skills / Certifications & License Experience with MAC & PC, Adobe Creative Suites, and a CMS system is preferred.
