Public Service Announcement: Mahaffey Bridge now has an 8 ton - TopicsExpress

Public Service Announcement: Mahaffey Bridge now has an 8 ton weight limit and a 25 mph speed limit while the new bridge is being rebuilt. This is the 2nd Johnson County bridge with troubles in as many weeks. The other one was closed, pending replacement. (Bridge inspections are still occuring.) Now you know why we often whine about how Iowa fuel tax for roads and bridges is the exact same amount since 1988. The .21 a gallon went a lot further 25 years ago. Do you know anything that costs the same amount as it did in the 80s? No one wants to pay more at the pump, but I doubt they want a bridge to collapse either or have huge potholes grow and grow. Mahaffey Bridge and Mahaffry Bridge Road will be under construction all summer. While the road wont be closed that often, you may want to avoid the area during heavy traffic times. Other road projects this summer include Sharon Center Bridge (will close); 520th east out of Hills (will be open one-way; Oak Crest Hill south of Hills (will close). A lot more can be found at Secondary Raods Department at johnson-county Thank you for tuning in.
