Puppy Update: Athena had delivered 8 puppies and then stalled for two hours. Dr. Dean with the Flathead Pet Emergency recommended we come in for an ultrasound to see how the puppies were doing. We headed over and one puppys heart rate was only 156. That is dangerously low. We made the decision to proceed with an emergency C section. Thank God we did. The last two puppies had twisted their placentas together and Dr. Dean said she never would have passed the puppies naturally. His fantastic crew (Victor, Alex and Samantha) took great care of Athena. They prepped her in record time and were set for surgery so fast. I was beating myself up because we considered doing a scheduled C but decided to let her go natural because all the skulls should have fit easily through. Once again, Athena had a very unusual occurrence that we never would have suspected. Teal was born at 7:46pm our third Boy and 11.1 oz. White was born two minutes later, after Dr. Dean untwisted the placentas, A girl weighing 14.4 oz. Mama came out of surgery great and we are all back home and resting well. Thank you to each of you who have prayed, lifted us up, shared this wonderful experience with us. It is our honor to raise these babies to be fantastic members of your family.
