Puri, Dhauli put on high alert after Bodh Gaya attack Bhubaneswar/Puri: A high alert has been sounded at Jagannath temple, Puri and Dhauli, an important Buddhist site on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar following the serial blasts that rocked the Mahabodhi temple complex in Bodh Gaya in Bihar on Sunday morning. The nine serial explosions have left at least five people injured. While security at the 12th century shrine has been beefed up, the security personnel have been asked to keep an eye on suspicious movements of the tourists. “Since the world famous Rath Yatra is just two days away, we have decided to step up security checks at all the hotels and lodgings in the town and the beach as well,” SP (Puri), Anup Sahoo said. Meanwhile one platoon of force has been deployed at Dhauli, which is famous for its Buddhist monuments. The Sunday attack on the Budhist shrines in Bodhgaya, which attract a large number of pilgrims, especially from Japan, Thailand, Sri Lanka and Myanmar has also sent shock waves among the residents in Ratnagiri area in Jajpur district. The district administration however has decided to review the security system at Udayagiri, Ratnagir and Langudi, the famous Buddhist destinations in the State following the serial explosions. “Usually during December-March, we provide adequate security at these places looking at the flow of tourists. But after the today’s incident, we have decided to review the security system,” Collector (Jajpur), Anil Kumar Samal, said. According to reports, in Bodh Gaya the blasts took place in quick succession between 5.30 am and 6 am in the temple complex and near the Mahabodhi tree. Reports say, all blasts were of low-intensity and there has been no damage to the temple shrine. While four blasts took place inside the Mahabodhi Temple complex, three occurred in Karmapa monastery, one each near the 80-ft Buddha statue and at the bus stand near bypass, police said.
