Q: Is dairy healthy? I hear good and bad, should I cut it out? My answer: Yes, dairy is healthy. But whether or not you should cut it out or modify your consumption really depends on your goals and the type of dairy you choose to eat. Dairy is high in protein, vitamin d and calcium, which are all good for building strong bones and muscles. Some dairy is better than others and some contains more hormones that I choose to consume. Cottage cheese and plain greek yogurt have more protein than a comparable serving size of milk or fruit flavored yogurt. Milk and flavored yogurts also contain sugar and more carbs. As part of a healthy diet, yes, low fat dairy is fine. On average, I consume 1-3 servings of cottage cheese or greek yogurt each week. However, if I am trying to get a little extra lean for a special event, dairy is the first thing to go for a few weeks.
