QUICK FIX: Janice and her husband just re-did the basement into an in-law’s apartment a few months ago. They didnt expect any rent, but to chip in on electric, cable and food. So far, they haven’t helped with the bills and the electric bill ended up hitting $600 this month (prior to them moving in it was $250ish.) The in-laws keep it stifling hot downstairs, even adding extra space heaters that are unnecessary. Janice feels overwhelmed; she just had to take almost all of their money out of their account just for groceries until their next payday.
