Question: Can I Trick-or-Treat just to get some free candy? Sheikh: AllahulMustaan. This tradition has several origins to a Celtic tradition known as samhein where they would give candy to evil spirits preventing them from entering their homes. Another tradition states that trick-or-treating comes from people who began imitating bad spirits a little too much and started pulling naughty pranks on the night of Halloween. Families started offering to give out treats in exchange for not being tricked! Yet a third tradition states that trick-or-treating developed from the British practice of handing out food known as “soul cakes” on All Souls’ Day (a holiday observed on November 2nd to commemorate people who have passed away). The poor or hungry would go door to door on All Souls’ Day, asking for food in exchange for saying a prayer for the dead. Deception, bribery, costumes, praying for the dead, taking part in a satanic tradition of gore, blood, monsters and anything else that represents evil...all in the name of some free candy? Not to forget that some pple tamper with candies and then give them away to your children. So what do you think my answer will be? Audience: Slight giggle Me: The Prophet (s) encouraged us to keep our children home when dark sets in for fear of Shayateen controlling them to do crazy things. Moral of the story: Do NOT celebrate anything with satanic connotations. And when Magrib approaches, KEEP YOUR CHILDREN INDOORS as was the sunnah of the Prophet SAW.
