Question: Why do so many people in the auto-sales industry provide such poor customer service? Its important to note that I have had a number of excellent experiences with knowledgeable, professional and friendly sales staff at big dealers (Cooley, Destination Nissan, Northeast Acura, Mohawk Honda) and a used-car lot or two (Run & Tell in Schenectady). But Ive also experienced everything from classic bait-and-switch at big places to either what-the-hell laziness or predatory pushiness at dealers new and used. In all seriousness, if the low-wage employees at ShopRite, CVS and Subway are almost invariably sunny and helpful, why are some of the people to whom Im trying to give thousands of dollars so much worse at customer service? If I walked into a jeweler with $15,000 and said I wanted to spend it all on a watch, theyd take me out to dinner and give me a pedicure while I ate, if thats what I wanted. But such treatment isnt the standard when it comes to buying a vehicle. Why not?
