Question of the Day May 20th For 36 days now, the abducted Chibok - TopicsExpress

Question of the Day May 20th For 36 days now, the abducted Chibok school girls have been in Boko Haram captivity. Many Nigerians, and now many more from around the world, have been taking to the streets to protest what they call the Nigerian government’s inability to rescue the girls. Last week, it was announced that President Goodluck Jonathan would finally visit Chibok on Friday, but the trip was cancelled. The President instead was in Paris to attend a regional summit with neighboring West African countries convened by French President Francoise Hollande to discuss fresh strategies for handling Boko Haram and other terrorist groups in West and Central Africa. While in France, Jonathan defended his Chibok trip cancellation by saying that since the girls are not kept in Chibok, his trip there would have meant nothing as it would not have led to finding them. This is why we ask our question of the day today as follows: Is President Jonathan’s reason tenable for not going to Chibok? Should he have gone there anyway as a reassurance and morale booster for the girls’ parents?
