Quick update on the newcomers. They have all settled in well. Summer (the pally mare) is still very unsure what the feed dishes are and much prefers the hay. Lots of tail swishing and shes been looking for a place to give birth. Our trainers are going to try a handling lesson this afternoon (weather depending) as she is unhandled but very quiet. Depending on how the handling lesson goes We are aiming on moving Summer into the birthing paddock at Tamworth HQ. Mia (black mini mare) is such a curious girl!! At first the feed buckets were something she would avoid at all costs but as soon worked out thats where the good stuff is and is quick to put her head in. She is also unhandled, so Pat and Tara are going to catch (I say that laughing) her this afternoon, get halters on and get her leading. Pablo (mini gelding/stallion) is much the same as Mia. Its more of a monkey see monkey do sort of thing. We have a sneaky suspicion Pablo may be Mias son. He will also get the same handling lesson this afternoon. Both Mia and Pablo will head over to Reynmaker Training Stables this week to continue their handling where they will eventually be broken to saddle. Mare with colt foal at foot: we are yet to settle on names for these two. The colt was weak and wobbly yesterday but very quiet as both Marc and Tara managed a foal hug. He is just beautiful!! Mum had a handling lesson yesterday, managed to get the halter on before getting her off the truck but she is not yet sure what we are asking of her when we try to lead her. She appears to have an abscess in her mouth but shes not yet quiet enough to examine this issue. Shes poor and was very dehydrated yesterday so there is a little worry she may not be producing any or enough milk to feed bub. While she is quiet, she is not quiet enough to milk her without being in a crush. Rolley the TB has settled in beautifully!! Running rings around Pictor and loving every chance to stretch his legs! He is however wind sucking on every post he can find so in going to hunt down a collar for him before heading home. He is not overly impressed with his new feed but will slowly come around. His letting down process has already began so we have our fingers crossed he wont let down hard! Once everyone has been handled they will be wormed (not sure with Summer just yet). And an update on Jackson: he has a new paddock friend in the form of a mare and foal. He is very protective of them and hunts others away when they come to say hello over the fence. He is slowly improving every day!! Managed a short canter yesterday when he was coming up to say hello. It is good to see him brighter and more mobile! Other exciting news: stud muffin aka Nemo will be leaving today for his new home! Just waiting for some sun to come out then ill head out and get some photos of everyone before heading home to do some much needed, but dreaded, admin work!! Have a great day everyone!
