Quietly Doing A Good Job! You almost never hear much about the young American phenom Ray Robson. That is because he quietly does his job without drama, and you would never hear crazy stuff coming out of his mouth. Until a month ago, he was the youngest American to earn the GM title, and consistently ranked as one of the top under 21 in the world. He is well liked and respected by all his teammates. It has been quite a few months for Ray. In his first tournament back since the 2014 US Championship last May, he got 2nd place at Millionaire Chess after his former roommate Wesley So, while earning a cool $50,000. He followed that up with a 2nd place finish at the SPICE Cup, just 1/2 pt behind another teammate Illia Nyzhnyk. In his 3rd tournament back, he helped Webster University win the 2014 PanAm (by scoring 5.5/6), the 28th national titles for the team in just over 2 years. Ray just had the greatest streak in College Chess history (winning 13 straight games for Webster A team) stopped less than a month ago at the PanAm InterCollegiate Chess Championship by drawing GM Kritz (2639) with black. Rays current USCF rating is 2750, which makes him the highest rated American born in the US. He is also the best tennis player on the team. He could easily make Websters tennis team but he decides to devote more time to his studies and chess. Ray will continue to do magic on the 64 squares for years to come, but you will probably hear very little about it as he will do it quietly :)
