Quoting my sister Renees post below. Thanks for bringing back great memories. Yes, this was my youth. And I think there were things in those shows that represent the first time I ever wrote, directed, or choreographed something. For years, our family ritual for Labor Day weekend was this: Dave, Joe, our friends, and I would produce and perform a little show in the backyard for the neighbors and then donate the ticket proceeds to MDA. Mom would stay up all Sunday night watching Jerry Lewis and waiting for the good acts---Lola Falana or Sinatra or Sammy Davis Jr.--to make an appearance. Thered be a picnic with white hots and macaroni-tuna salad. Dad would let us have a sip or two of Jenny Cream Ale. At 7:00, wed go back into the house to watch Jerry Lewis mangle Youll Never Walk Alone. It was pure kitsch and it was phenomenal and I miss it.
