R W Johnson writes the following on Politicsweb, In fact all the DAs progress since 1994 has been achieved under white leaders and everything suggests that the party would gradually add more black voters under either a white or black leader - provided that that leader can hold the party together and keep it a party of liberal and democratic principle. There may even be a positive side to the leader being white. One notes how African, Coloured and Indian parents are eager that their children should attend formerly white schools - it is seen as a guarantee of quality - and also how, for the same reason, they do not want the whites to abandon the school to them: the ideal is to be racially diverse and keep the whites involved. Parties may be the same. Now this self appointed don of South African liberalism has to be discarded by those who espouse liberal philosophy. In fact, his racist intellectual depravity is not only ahistorical but resonates well with Die Mein Kampf. Black people send their children to historically white schools, not because there are whites people, but because those schools were better resourced. In fact most of these schools are private schools which means that they are insulated from government ineptitude that we are seeing in provinces such as Limpopo education system. To suggest that the mere existence of white people in these schools equates guaranteed success is disingenuous bordering on racial supremacy. The DA under Helen is a formidable political machinery, not because of her race, but because of her individual leadership qualities. I would refer R W Johnson to Ashley Montagus book, Mans most dangerous myth: The fallacy of race. Here the professor will learn that race has no scientific basis to explain ones capabilities or lack thereof. Responding to Prof Johnson, I find myself also trapped by this fallacious dichotomy of Black/White narrative. This is not to deny South Africas historical basis of racial oppression, but my melanin content does not define my capabilities, my personality or as Martin Luther King said the content of my character.
