RANT- After a community meeting this evening, the Martinez Disc Golf Club withdrew their plan for a disc golf course at Hidden Lakes Park. There has been community opposition and support for this project. I personally support it. Disc golf preserves open space and provides recreation. Check out the Moraga course. A disc golf course, open space and park areas coexist quite well. In fact, more people get more enjoyment and recreation out of that combination than just a park and open space, alone does. Disc golf in Martinez would be a recreational benefit to the community. It would have little impact on the activities that already exist at Hidden Lakes. The simple fact is disc golf would be an enhancement to the recreational opportunities in Martinez. To that end, it is my understanding that this is not the end of Disc Golf in Martinez. The Martinez Disc Golf Club will continue to try and find a location in Martinez. Hidden Lakes would have been a great spot IMHO. :(
