READY TO CRY? These 2 sweet old ladies came to our event last Saturday. The little Boston was scheduled for a spay. Sadly we couldnt take her because of her skin. We asked the old lady if the dog had fleas because it sure looked like flea allergies. She said yes and told us that she was trying to fight the fleas by washing the dogs (this Boston has a twin sister) with Dawn dish soap because she couldnt afford flea medication. She also said the fleas were bad in her yard and she just doesnt know what to do. She is retired and on a very tight budget. She also doesnt have a car and depends on others to drive her around. Right now she badly needed food for her dogs and had just transferred $60 she had saved up, into her checking account so that she could buy food and pay us for helping her. Oh my! We told her we wouldnt take her savings, but still help her and her kids. We saw the fleas crawling on the Boston and immediately applied flea meds. We also went ahead and gave the girl a MUCH needed nail trim. The sweet old lady kept repeating THANK YOU every 2 minutes and kept telling us that we have no idea how much we helped her. Before she left, we gave her flea meds for both dogs for the next 3 months and told her to schedule the spay surgery as soon as the dogs skin was healed. Then we fit a sweater on the little Boston and gave her another one for the other dog. We loaded up her friends car with food, beds, treats, toys and anything the old lady wanted. With tears in her eyes she thanked us again and they drove off. Its sad to see how many people struggle to make ends meet and still try to do as much as they can for their animals. This lady would have given us her last $60. Probably all she had for this month....
