REDESIGNED MY BLOG, I THINK IT LOOKS NICE. Thief: Rushed Schizophrenic Brilliance, Pt, 1 of 2, 4200 words. "Yet these traits simply aren’t enough to land Thief into classic tier of video game history. What I’ve described thus far will appear positively rudimentary to the modern gamer, who expects at least as much from an entry into the stealth genre. I’ve merely examined the pillars at a microscopic level, and explained how they work to create the nebulous effect of “immersion,” a word cheaply handed out these days and more often tied to graphics and audio presentation than raw gameplay. In 2013, we are accustomed to these systems and intimately understand their boundaries and limitations imposed on how we are allowed to play the game. It’s meant to play this way, and it does, because the genre has had more than a decade to refine the general principles of sneaking, taking out targets efficiently and quietly, or evading trouble altogether and navigating to the next level or area. No, Thief is exceptional because I can’t think of a more exemplary and unparalleled addition to the argument that nothing can be viewed in an absolute time vacuum. Temporality plays as large a role as any in examining the importance and significance of Thief."
