***RESCUE VENT*** This vent/rant tonight is coming from a very frustrated place. Both my mother and I are in very frustrating points in our life in more ways that one, and more than I like or care to share. One of our biggest frustration is that we can not seem to MOVE dogs. We also can not seem to find fosters or sponsors or more importantly ADOPTERS. We DO have some close friends who every now and again DO donate what they can to us and for that we are extremely GRATEFUL. We have dogs that have been with us for OVER a year, some over 2. While we love them with all of our hearts, we see them daily and know how much better their life could be. They shouldnt be subject to crate and rotate. They should be free to roam their own home with their own kids/family. Some of our dogs you can tell are TIRED of waiting. Some we see deterioration in their spirit. These we are desperately seeking foster homes or adoptive homes for ASAP, but stil have had no luck. We know these dogs deserve more than even we can give them. We gave them their second chance, now we need someone somewhere to fall in love with them so their lives can truly begin. Our rescue has only 7 dogs. 7 you say? Thats not a lot! No it is not, but when you add that on top of our personal dogs, then numbers just shot up and it IS a lot of dogs to take care of. Financially, mentally, and physically. We do not take in more than we can responsibly and adequately care for, this is why our intake has been closed since our last rescue in December 2013. Unfortunately, our dogs have sort of been lost in foster care. Due to a lot of restraints between work and kids, we havent been able to really attend adoption events in quite some time. We used to attend faithfully, and never had even an inquiry about our fosters at the time. The dogs we have now, to be honest dont have the best adoption event behavior. Its is highly stressful (if i were a dog seeing a ton of other dogs crated and some with blah behavior, Id be stressed too) environment for them. Our dogs do best on one on one meet n greets. Ideally we would love to find adopters online, ones who are actively seeking to add that special furry family member and hopefully one of ours catches their eye. If anyone has any suggestions, tips, ideas, or can help us network for adopters in anyways please comment below or PM me. At the rate all of this is going, we are very much considering changing our rescue (once all fosters are adopted) to an advocacy group and calling it quits on actually rescuing dogs but focusing more on raising funds to spay & neuter, helping raise monies for heartworm treatments, starting a dog food drive for different shelters, assisting the homeless with their dogs and working in our local community to educate and advocate on behalf of the forgotten bullies outside on chains. My mother transports lots and lots of dogs whenever asked to and she loves to temp foster for other rescues. She may consider continuing to do that , but as for me I have to do what is best with my living situation and I have to back away from bringing any new rescues into my home. Unlike other rescues who have many sponsors and devoted followers, we do not. We also dont have any history of dumping dogs on people, returning them to the shelter, using funds for other things, or lying to people to get more donations. We also NEVER THREATEN TO TAKE DOGS BACK TO THE SHELTER OR EUTHANIZING SHOULD NO ONE STEP UP TO ADOPT WITHIN A GIVEN AMOUNT OF TIME. That is NOT how we roll. We stick with the dogs even when shit gets tough. I think were both a bit tired of being in the negative everymonth (i am a waitress, my mother a retired teacher on fixed income) and frankly I would really like to spend more time with my family and LESS stressed out on dogs. Shoot even a vacation would be nice, even one for my mom but that probably wont happen until we can get all of our fosters adopted out. So as you can probably tell we are reaching burn out. So dont tell us suck it up. We are only saying what many have said or are thinking about. I guess we thought wed have a bit more followers and sponsors than we do. People know our hearts and that we do good work, but unfortunately its just not there. So it is looking like we will be another small rescue shutting down in the future due to lack of support. At least it wasnt for anything else ..........
