RESEARCH SCHOLAR IN NATURAL RESOURCES ECONOMICS VACANCY NO: ORI 11/2013 Open Until Filled A GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY UNIVERSITY OF BOTSWANA Faculty / Department : Human Resources Job Detail: OKAVANGO RESEARCH INSTITUTE (MAUN) Applications are invited for the following academic positions at the Okavango Research Institute (ORI). The Institute is based in Maun in the North Western part of Botswana and specializes in natural resources management, sustainable natural resource use and conservation in the world famous Okavango Delta and the Kgalagadi (Kalahari) region. The Institute has a good library (a branch of the University library in Gaborone) and excellent research laboratories. The Institute attracts significant international funding and is becoming generally acknowledged as a global research leader in natural resources management. RESEARCH SCHOLAR IN NATURAL RESOURCES ECONOMICS VACANCY NO: ORI 11/2013 Duties: The successful candidate will undertake research on environmental and natural resource economics to promote wise natural resources management by enhancing knowledge and understanding of human activity in relation to natural resource use and sustainable livelihoods in southern Africa with particular emphasis on the Okavango Delta and the Kalahari regions. The research areas will include natural resource accounting, valuation of services and cost benefit analysis of natural resource activities or policies. Requirements: The candidate should hold: (i) a Master’s degree in Economics with specialization in environmental and natural resource economics or related fields (ii) a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics with specialization in environmental and natural resource economics or equivalent related fields, with a 2(i)pass/GPA of at least 3.6; (iii) show evidence of engagement in research and service ;(v) show strong quantitative skills in econometric analysis and ability to engage in collaborative research and work within a multidisciplinary academic environment (vi) a relevant PhD, teaching experience at a University or Comparable institution and demonstration of effective academic leadership will be added advantages.
