ROSENBERG, TEXAS (September 4, 2013): The City of Rosenberg and the Rosenberg Development Corporation (RDC) are proud to join ALDI, Inc., the nation’s leading low price grocer, in announcing Rosenberg, Texas, as the location of a new 650,000 square foot distribution center and divisional headquarters. Batavia, Illinois-based ALDI is known for offering high quality grocery items at unbeatable prices. The new ALDI facility in Rosenberg will serve the company’s emerging Houston market. As of May 2013, ALDI has opened 12 new stores in the Houston area, and plans to grow rapidly in the market. In addition to the new distribution center, ALDI plans to open a new store in Rosenberg on Reading Road between FM 2218 and Interstate 69 in the spring of 2014. The distribution center and divisional headquarters will be located along US Highway 90A, just west of Rude Road, on a tract offered by Tarantino Properties. The tract will provide ALDI prime access to Interstate 69 (US 59). The center is expected to add more than 150 jobs and a capital expenditure investment of more than $60 million to the local economy. The facility is anticipated to be valued at $44 million, with an additional $20 million in taxable inventory. Construction on the facility is anticipated to begin in early 2014, with completion in October 2015. The distribution center and divisional headquarters will officially open for business in early 2016. “We are pleased to bring our Houston distribution center and divisional headquarters to Rosenberg,” said Scott Huska, Denton division vice president for ALDI. “The location of the site is prime real estate for our distribution efforts, and will allow us to offer more grocery shoppers in the Houston area a smarter shopping alternative. We are proud to partner with our neighbors and look forward to continuing a long-term relationship with this community.” ALDI considered 30 sites in the Houston region before selecting the Rosenberg site. The City of Rosenberg City Council approved seventy percent (70%) tax abatement on the building and equipment for 10 years at their September 3 meeting. Fort Bend County will consider a similar tax abatement agreement at an upcoming Commissioner’s Court meeting. In addition to the tax abatement, the RDC approved a $500,000 reimbursement for infrastructure and development costs once the facility is completed, and agreed to reimburse a portion of sales tax collected on eligible construction materials. According to Rosenberg Economic Development Director, Matt Fielder, “The impact of the new ALDI facility is not limited just to the City of Rosenberg. It will also positively impact the business community at large, Lamar CISD, Fort Bend County, and neighboring communities.” Rosenberg Mayor Vincent M. Morales, Jr. added, “We are excited that ALDI has selected Rosenberg for a distribution center and divisional headquarters. We welcome them to the community, and thank them for their investment in Rosenberg. We look forward to witnessing ALDI’s success in Rosenberg and the Houston metropolitan market, and to working with them as a corporate partner in the years ahead.” Initial discussions with ALDI were facilitated by the Greater Houston Partnership in September 2011. The City and RDC worked in conjunction with Fort Bend County Commissioner Richard Morrison, and the Greater Fort Bend Economic Development Council to recruit ALDI. ALDI was represented in the search process by Raymond Walker with the Walker Companies located in Atlanta.
