Rabat misses out on FP2 fastest lap by 6/100ths to Salom after dominating FP1 for Zircotec’s Moto2 partners Marc VDS Racing at Le Mans. As we move towards tomorrow’s qualifying, Moto2 points table leader Tito Rabat is sitting right behind Luis Salom. His teammate and ‘runaway winner’ of the last round Mika Kallio is also poised for a good qualifying having set the 8th fastest time but crucially only 0.3s outside of the top three. Rabat had earlier set the fastest times in FP1 but spent the FP2 session working on ‘race setup’ for his Zircotec equipped bike and is confident of his ability to put in the fast times when necessary. Mika Kallio meanwhile took a similar approach to Rabat and ran the whole of the FP2 session with a worn tyre from FP1 simulating race conditions and was only 0.4 seconds outside the times being set by riders on new tyres. It all bodes well for the race strategies of the team and could potentially mean a boost up the time for Kallio during tomorrow’s qualifying. Livio Loi, the team’s Moto3 protégé had issues during the sessions and is looking to improve both his turning and rear grip on his 250cc single cylinder machine. He is currently in 22nd position but is hoping to make big improvements in time for the Moto3 qualifying sessions.
