Rain, snow excepted in Kashmir in 24 hours Srinagar: There is a possibility of light rain or snow at isolated places during the next 24 hours in the Kashmir valley, where there was still no respite from the cold as the sky remained partly cloudy with icy cold winds continued, MeT department said on Thursday. A Met department spokesman said here this afternoon there is a possibility of light rain or snow in the state. There would be no major change in the weather during the subsequent two days, he said. Srinagar, recorded a low of 1 degree Celsius, slightly lower than previous nights minimum of 1.5 degree Celsius, a MeT Department official said. The mercury settled at minus 0.1 degree Celsius in Qazigund, the gateway town to the Kashmir Valley, almost same as previous nights 0.0 degree Celsius. Kupwara, in north Kashmir, registered a low of minus 1.0 degree Celsius, over two degree down from the previous nights 1.5 degree Celsius, the official said. The night temperature in south Kashmirs Kokernag rose from minus 0.6 degree Celsius the previous night to settle at 0.4 degree Celsius. However, Pahalgam hill resort, in south Kashmir, saw the mercury plunging by four degree to settle at a low of minus 10.4 degree Celsius last night. The famous ski-resort of Gulmarg recorded a low of minus 7.8 degree Celsius last night as compared to minus 7.6 degree Celsius previous night. The mercury in Leh, in the frontier region of Ladakh, dipped slightly to settle at a low of minus 13.6 degree Celsius as compared to the previous nights minus 12.8 degree Celsius. Nearby Kargil town recorded a low of minus 12.8 degree Celsius as against the previous night’s minus 13.0 degree Celsius, the official said.
