Rain was really upset last year around Martin Luther Kings Birthday. They talked about it at school quite a bit. I asked her about it then and this is what she said: Martin Luther King cant come to his birthday(party) because hes dead. How can someone come to their party if they are dead? Because he stood up because its not fair that black people can only go on the back of the bus and black people said were not riding the bus until the rules change. Whats the difference between black people and white people? Nothing. Black people were not treated nice and white people were treated like nice people. I feel like I need to be better educated. She says that there is no difference between white and black people. Reading this made me think of the whole issue of colorblindness. Already, this young, she has opinions and views of the world. Because I am white, in a largely white neighborhood, I havent thought so much about race. But finding this conversation in yet another pile of papers, it reminds me of what a huge responsibility it is to be a parent. Oh, and I like this article:
