Rainy Monday due to LPA MANILA, July 29 (PNA) -- The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Monday that most parts of the country will be cloudy. The state weather agency also warned of possible flash floods and landslides as the low-pressure area continues to move northeast of Occidental Mindoro. Weather Forecaster Jori Loiz said as of 4 a.m., the LPA was spotted at 60 km Northeast of San Jose, Occidental Mindoro (12.6°N, 121.5°E) embedded along the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) affecting Visayas and Mindanao. Loiz said the LPA continues to move northwest and has a slim chance to develop into a tropical depression as it continues to interact with landmass. However, he said that the agency continues to monitor and if the LPA develops into a tropical depression, it will be named "Jolina". It will be the third cyclone to visit the country this month and the 10th for this year. Loiz also said that in the next 24 hours, the LPA is expected to be out of the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) towards the West Philippine Sea and may intensify into a tropical depression since it is in the sea. Loiz noted that Metro Manila, Central Luzon, Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon), Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan, Bicol Region, Western Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Caraga and Davao Region will experience cloudy skies with moderate to occasionally heavy rainshowers and thunderstorms which may trigger flashfloods and landslides. He also said that the rest of the country will have cloudy skies with light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms. Meanwhile, Loiz said that the agency is monitoring a cloud cluster in Mindanao that may develop into an LPA in the coming days. In its advisory, PAGASA said moderate to occasionally strong winds blowing from the southwest will prevail over Palawan, Visayas and Mindanao. The coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to occasionally rough. It added that light to moderate winds coming from the northeast to north will prevail over Northern and Central Luzon and coming from the northwest to west over the rest of Luzon. The coastal waters along these areas will be slight to moderate. (PNA)
