Rand Paul: Obama Should Explain to the Pope Why Americans Can’t Stay True to Faith And Stay in Business 11,797 Shares By Mike Miller 17 hours ago Share Tweet Email 12K Prior to Barack Obama’s meeting this week with Pope Francis, Kentucky Senator Rand Paul has a suggestion for the president: Explain to the pontiff why you’re trying to infringe on the moral beliefs of America’s Christians. During an appearance on Fox and Friends on Tuesday, the 2016 presidential hopeful didn’t pull any punches: “He ought to explain to the Pope why he is telling businesses in America they can’t remain true to their faith and stay in business.” Paul referred to the lawsuit being heard by the Supreme Court on Tuesday that challenges the part of ObamaCare that mandates coverage for birth control, abortifacients and so-called “morning after” pills; all of which are opposed by the Catholic Church. The suit is being brought by businesses, including Hobby Lobby, who say the rule violates their religious freedom. Paul agrees: “The ‘Hobby Lobby’ case is being discussed today, and I think it’s important that he tell the leader of the Catholic Church why he thinks that businesses owned by Catholics can’t make their own decisions with regard to healthcare.” Irrespective of the SCOTUS decision, should the president share with the Pope his belief that Christian employers should violate their moral beliefs in the name of ObamaCare?
