Random piece of information you never wanted to know but I found interesting about US & EU farm subsidy disputes filed by other countries inside the World Trade Organization (WTO). Brazil & Australia filed complaints against the European Union (EU) for sugar subsidies on the same day that Brazil filed against the US cotton subsidies, 27.9.2002. Thailand filed against the European Union sugar subsidies on 14.3.2003. The WTO found in favor of the three complainants and the EU agreed in November 2005 to cut sugar subsidies, beginning in July 2006. In July 2005, Uruguayan representatives spoke of plans to file a WTO case against US rice subsidies. The president of the Uruguayan Rice Growers Association said the country had been inspired by Brazils successful challenge to US cotton subsidies (Dow Jones 2005). **In short, international actors sue the United States because of cotton subsidy (transfers of wealth from American Tax Payers to large agribusiness).
