Rant ahead........ Why is it that the news media can only bring themselves to cover disaster, misery and violence? The news on the radio this morning started with a drunk man whose legs had been severed and subsequently died because he was asleep on railway tracks, then there was the consipiracy theories over the Air Asia plane, quickly followed by the tragedy of the plane crashing off Tasman Island, then it went to a woman in QLD who has been charged with killing two children and trying to kill two others when she deliberately set the house on fire and locked the kids inside. HELLO!!! If we actually stopped and realised how desensitized we had become to all this its scary. Well my kids ARENT desensitized to it. I dont want my kids to grow up and think that these actions are normal and acceptable. I cant hide them from the atrocities of the world, but would it be so hard to put good news in the bulletin every now and again?? Programs like 60 Minutes and Sunday Night at least show the personal side of these tragedies and share the true effects. Elsa asked me today if there were any good people in the big world!! How heartbreaking that a five year old has to ask that. Anyway, it bothers me. Im not going to listen to the radio news for a while, I hate it.
