Raquel and I had Quest euthanized today. I had this idea of Quest - TopicsExpress

Raquel and I had Quest euthanized today. I had this idea of Quest passing away peacefully in his sleep, but the truth is that his lungs were riddled with tumors, and he had an increasingly difficult time breathing. The thought of him struggling for air was completely unacceptable. He deteriorated rapidly in the last week. He no longer ate and barely drank. He lost a good deal of weight and was tired and weak. To compound the issue, he had a hard time walking because he aggravated his right knee overcompensating for his surgically repaired left knee. It was just his time. At the vet, we were led to a small room with a blanket on the floor. Quest lay down and I sat down next to him. The vet administered three syringes: a sedative to calm him, a large dose of propofol to put him into a stupor, and a drug that stopped his heart. I held him in my arms and told him that he was a good boy and that mommy and daddy love him. Within seconds of receiving the final injection, his poor body went limp and he was gone. He wasnt scared and he didnt suffer. He actually looked very peaceful. Raquel and I sobbed and kissed him for several minutes. We requested that he be individually cremated and that we get his ashes. Quest was the best dog ever, full stop, end of sentence. He was sweet and funny and delightfully mischievous. He charmed every single person lucky enough to make his acquaintance. There will never be another like him. Now hes in heaven, enthusiastically licking Gods face. Hell always be young; hell always be beautiful; hell always be perfect. The tragedy is that he died so young. He was only four years old; less than two months shy of his fifth birthday. But in his heartbreakingly brief life, he received more love and more caring than most animals will ever know. And he gave more love than would even seem possible. He will be forever missed and forever cherished. It was a privilege to be his mommy and daddy.
